Chinese tourists record, more than two arrivals per min
Since four decades, 10 visitors from China landed in Australia every week. During 2016, the same amount arrived every five minutes. More than one million Chinese tourists to Australia have brought the local sightseeing industry a record year in 2016.
Overall, 8.3 million tourists arrived to Australia for a short period of time during the year up by almost one million on 2015.
New Zealand was the principal source country for visitors – 1.3 million Kiwis crossed the Tasman Sea for trips in 2016. Since last few decades, New Zealand trips have grown by a quarter.
Dr Patrick L’Espoir Decosta from the Australian National University one of the renowned newspaper in January that years of work positioning Australia as an eye-catching traveling spot for foreign visitors is being rewarded as mounting wealth in China and India drives tourism spending.
“People from these two countries are ready to travel, and they want to see first world countries,” he said.
