Eric Schmidt: New tech ensuring for longer battery life
Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of Google parent company Alphabet, said that new battery technology that could show the way to faster-charging, long-lasting and secured batteries are coming your way this week.
Schmidt tweeted about the “promising” work of John Goodenough, an engineering professor at the University of Texas, Austin, and Maria Helena Braga, a senior research fellow there. Goodenough co-invented the lithium-ion battery.
Goodenough and Braga’s team has produced an all-solid-state battery that doesn’t rely on chemical liquids to work. That’s a significant feature because the casing, security and proscribed interactions of those liquids are somewhat why batteries can blow up.
