Italy seeks help from Russia in alleviating Libyan Crisis
London: The Libyan coast guards rescued more than 100 migrants, including a baby just a few weeks old, from a feeble rubber ship drifting to 16 kilometers off Tripoli this week. Approximately 9,500 migrants have crossed the Mediterranean already this year, putting 2017 on track to be a record year.
The European Union settled this month to grant the Tripoli government $213 million to strengthen security forces and coast guard, but Italy requests a transformed push for a permanent political solution to the anarchy in Libya and it’s waiting for Moscow to help.
According to Eurasia Group analyst Riccardo Fabiani, it might be a sensible move.
